The application requires internet access to complete the registration process.

If you have a firewall or other security software on your computer, you may need to configure it to allow the application to register with our servers. This action requires 'Administrator' rights and so may need to be carried out by your IT support provider.

The application only requires internet access for registration so the permissions can be removed once registration is successful.

Instructions for Installation and use of the BCIS Wessex Estimating Pad.

Important Information for Windows Vista Users
In Windows Vista it is necessary to allow the Wessex Estimating Pad to run with Administrator Permissions. The Microsoft Knowledgebase article describing how to do this can be found here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922708

You must have internet access and rights to install software on your machine to perform these steps. Have the License key details from the sticker in your book ready. If you use firewall software or are inside a company network, you may need to ask your system administrator to allow the estimating pad to access the internet before registering. Permission can be switched off again once registration is complete.

1. On Selecting one of the above links the following dialogue should be displayed:

2. Double click the installer to begin installation.

3. Click ‘Next’ on the first screen

4. Read the license agreement and then choose ‘I accept the terms in the Licensing Agreement’ before clicking ‘Next’

5. Choose an install location for the application and then click ‘Next’

6. Review installation options and click ‘Next’

7. Click ‘Finish’

The software is now installed. To start the software choose:

‘Start/All Programs/ BCIS Wessex Pricebook & Estimating Pad’

or double click the Estimating Pad icon  on your desktop.

If you still cannot register after installing to the default C:\Program Files\BCIS Wessex

Please note that the problem is with USER PERMISSSONS on your PC so below is a fix that can be applied.

Please re-install the application and specify a different location away from c:\ProgramFiles for example:

Instead of above default C:\Program Files try a different location C:\BCIS Wessex this should then allow you to register the product.

Open and view the selected Price Book

This can be achieved by selecting Open a Price Book from the menu or by clicking on the Price Book button. Either method will open the Price Book Screen.

Create a new estimating Project

This option will create a new blank Project, entering the details on the Project details screen. Once created, the Project will be opened for pricing.

Open an estimating Project

Either selecting the Open Project menu option or clicking on the Projects button will display a list of available projects and selecting one will open the estimating pad.

Setting up the System

The System Setup is accessed by selecting the option from the File menu

The details on this tab are printed on the Bill of Quantities face sheet.

  • This part of the setup allows the display and printing of the Items in the B of Q to be defined by the user.

  • To set an Item Type to Bold, Underlined, Italic or indented, double-click in the relevant column for the Item Type.

  • To change the colour of the displayed Item, double-click on its Item Type description and select the colour from the standard Windows colour map.

  • On some PCs - mainly laptops, the fonts do not display very well due to limitations of the graphics system. If your PC has this problem - especially with italic text, untick the Display Fonts on Screen switch and see if the display improves.
